Since the university’s residences are self-financing and receive no operating subsidies, they are converted into hotel accommodation for the summer. The main objectives are as follows:
About 1,000 regular tenants stay for the summer, so over 1,300 rooms are available for rent during this period. What’s more, nearly 850 single rooms are converted into double occupancy rooms. This boosts accommodation capacity to more than 3,000 beds. For the Residence Office to reach its financial objectives, cooperation from tenants is therefore essential.
This year tenants in the H.-Biermans-L.-Moraud, Ernest-Lemieux, and Agathe-Lacerte Buildings will be the main group asked to change rooms in early May. Some universities close their residences in the summer to cut costs. However, Université Laval has chosen to promote its accommodation services to generate additional income. Our regular tenants do not need to be full-time students to stay in residence in the summer at the applicable lease rent.
The Residence Office would like to thank all our tenants for their understanding and cooperation.
